Lesson 1 · 3 min
Tactics vs. truth
Persuasion tricks can start a conversation, but they cannot hold one. The goal is not to be chosen, it is to be accurately known.
Swipe culture rewards packaging: the best photo, the cleverest opener, the coolest tone. That works for the first ten minutes and then quietly costs you months.
Anything you win by performing, you have to keep performing to keep. If the version of you that got the match is not the version that shows up on date three, you have built a match on a stranger.
The move is not to stop being charming. It is to make your charm truthful, real enthusiasm, real curiosity, real limits.
Do this, not that
Don't
"You're probably too much for most guys." (a negging tactic, engineered insecurity)
Do
"Your bookshelf photo made me want to argue with you about endings. What's a book you'd defend to the death?"
Why: The first one buys attention with discomfort. The second one buys attention with specificity, and it only works if you actually care about the answer.
Don't
Copy-pasting the same opener to twelve matches.
Do
One line that could only be sent to this one person.
Why: Specificity is the cheapest possible proof that you are paying attention. It also filters out people who don't want to be paid attention to.
Tonight's rep
Open your last three sent messages. Rewrite any that could have been sent to anyone.
