Lesson 2 · 4 min
Looks open the door. Energy decides if you stay.
Physical attraction is real and fine to have, it just predicts almost nothing about whether you'll be happy with someone.
Looks are a first-pass filter, and filters are fast and dumb. What actually keeps people together is regulated nervous systems: does this person make me feel calm, funny, unguarded, safe?
That's what people mean by chemistry. It's not magic, it's responsiveness. Do they track what you said? Do they build on your jokes? Do they notice when you go quiet?
Chemistry that survives is usually made of three things: shared pace, shared humor, and shared values under stress. None of those show up in a photo.
Do this, not that
Don't
Filtering matches only by photos, then hoping for a personality.
Do
Reading for responsiveness, do their messages build on yours or restart the conversation each time?
Why: Responsiveness is the single best early signal of whether someone can be close to another person.
Don't
"You're gorgeous." as the whole message.
Do
"You look like you laugh a lot in that second photo, who took it?"
Why: Compliment the aliveness, not the surface. It invites a story instead of ending in thank you.
